The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts the UGC-CSIR NET in other Science subjects, viz.,, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Earth Atmospheric Ocean & Planetary Sciences jointly with the UGC. The tests are conducted twice in a year generally in the months of June and December.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Testing Bureau, with a focus on higher quality education, conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) twice a year to determine the Eligibility for Lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) as well as Eligibility for Associate Professorship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for award the Indian nationals in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research. The Test is conducted in Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Applications and Electronic Science.

The National Eligibility Testing Bureau of the University Grants Commission has been conducting the National Eligibility Test for Lectureship for the Junior Research Fellowship since 1984.  In 1988, the Government through its Notification dated July 22, 1988 entrusted the responsibility to the University Grants Commission for holding the Tests to determine the Eligibility for Lectureship for Junior Research Fellowship and also the Eligibility for Associate Professorship for Junior Research Fellowship.

UGC NET Schedule:

The University Grants Commission organizes the NET twice a year, i.e., in the months of June and December. The University Grants Commission publishes its Notification twice a year in the weekly Journal of nationwide circulations, viz., Employment Newspapers, i.e., in March and September respectively to invite Online Application Forms from the eligible candidates. UGC’s detailed information Bulletin is also notified through its official website too.

University Grants Commission Affiliates:

The University Grants Commission has the University affiliates all over India, which consists of Central Universities, State Universities, Deemed Universities, Private Universities and the Universities with Potential in Excellence.

The Checklist involves information, such as, furnishing correct information in the Application Form, signing of Application Forms, individual UGC NET e-Admission Ticket / Hall Examination Ticket, enclosures to be submitted along with Online Application Form submission among others.

The University Grants Commission Test consists of three papers. These Three papers comprise Objective Type Questions and are taken by the candidates in two separate sessions as hereunder:

UGC NET 29th December Exam 2013(II) Declaration of Result:

This will comprise of following steps:

Step I: Minimum marks to be obtained in NET for considering a candidate for the award of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor.

The candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks separately in Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III as given below:

Step II: Amongst those candidates who clear step I, a Merit List will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.

Step III: Top 15% candidates (for each subject and category), from the Merit List mentioned under step II, will be declared NET qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor only.

Step IV: A separate merit list for the award of JRF will be prepared from amongst the NET qualified candidates figuring in the Merit List prepared under step III.

Syllabus of Test: 

All questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options). Syllabi for all NET subjects can be downloaded from the UGC Website and are also available in the libraries of all Indian Universities. UGC will not send the syllabus to individual candidates.

In case of any discrepancy found in the English and Hindi versions, the questions in English version shall be taken as final.
